A sewer scope is a video inspection of the lateral sewer line from the house at or near the foundation to the city tap by inserting a camera into the sewer line from a plumbing clean-out or vent. The purpose of a sewer scope is to discover and report defects that are visible in the lateral sewer line such as damaged pipes, root intrusion, corrosion, grease build-up, improper slope, offsets and blockages that can be very costly to repair. The scope typically also identifies the material used within the sewer line itself.
Tempest Inspections recommends having the sewer line scoped if you are planning on buying a home or having sewage back-ups and drainage issues. The sewer scope can be done during the same appointment as a home inspection saving you and your realtor time. You will also get a written report for the sewer scope along with a video.
